How Experienced Private Flyers Evaluate Charter Providers

For experienced private fliers, choosing a charter provider involves far more than finding an available aircraft. Reliability, operational expertise, aircraft availability, and the ability to consistently deliver predictable results often matter more than price or marketing claims. After more than two decades serving private aviation clients, New Flight Charters has observed the qualities private fliers want in their charter experience and from their charter broker partner.

How Experienced Private Flyers Evaluate Charter Providers

For more than two decades, I have worked with private aviation clients ranging from business owners and corporate executives to family offices, entrepreneurs, and experienced private flyers across the United States. Over that time, it has become clear: travelers who regularly fly private value different things than those newer to private aviation, shopping to book their first private flights.

Newer charter customers often focus on pricing. Experienced private flyers value the outcome. In flying private they are buying time and convenience.   And being outcome-based, their priorities are distilled to reliability and consistency.

At New Flight Charters, we believe understanding these priorities is essential to delivering the type of service that is expected and valued. While every client has unique travel needs, and each trip is different, the characteristics most valued by experienced private flyers are remarkably consistent.

Reliability Comes First

If there is one quality experienced private flyers consistently value above all others, it is reliability, both in service level and in the aircraft & flight itself.

Aviation is a complex environment, the providers job is to make it predictable and seamless, aligning with fliers’ values of time and convenience.

As a result, experienced fliers are less concerned with providers price & marketing claims, and more by their ability to consistently deliver dependable outcomes.

Reliability is produced by many factors, including;

  • Quality operators & the operator’s internal culture
  • Strong safety standards
  • The broker’s knowledge experience and oversight
  • Effective communication
  • Contingency planning
  • Responsive problem-solving

Aviation is the safest form of travel, hands down.  Because of this, safety standards can result in a disruption, be it weather, mechanical, air traffic etc.  Experienced flyers understand this, and what often matters most is how quickly and effectively those situations are managed and resolved.

Private Aviation Should Reduce Friction

One of the primary reasons successful individuals choose private aviation is simple: time.

The value of private aviation is not merely flying on a private aircraft. The true value lies in reducing friction throughout the travel experience.

Experienced travelers frequently seek providers who can simplify the booking process, anticipate common needs, and minimize complexity.

Over time, strong charter relationships often become increasingly efficient because the provider develops a detailed understanding of the client’s travel preferences, scheduling patterns, and operational expectations.

For many frequent flyers, convenience and predictability become more important than any ‘luxury’ features that are already expected.

Access Matters More Than Marketing

Many private aviation advertisements focus heavily on individual aircraft models. While aircraft selection certainly matters, experienced travelers often place greater value on availability and access.

Different trips require different aircraft solutions.

Variables may include:

  • Passenger count
  • Flight distance
  • Airport limitations
  • Baggage requirements
  • Schedule flexibility
  • Weather considerations

Experienced private flyers understand that the ideal aircraft for one mission may not be the ideal aircraft for the next. They often value providers with broad sourcing capabilities and access to multiple aircraft categories rather than a narrow fleet selection.

Knowledge of the market and environment can provide better time and convenience outcomes.  For example Citation X jets are aging and becoming less reliable as a whole.  Across Citation X floating fleets, dispatch reliability ranges 70-80-90% which is relatively low, not good.  However one particular Citation X fleet operator’s standards are creating a 98% dispatch reliability, on par or better than many new model fleets.

Operational Expertise Creates Better Outcomes

Many aspects of successful charter operations occur behind the scenes.

Aircraft sourcing, operator options, airport logistics, crew scheduling, maintenance considerations, weather planning, and regulatory compliance all influence the overall travel experience.

The most experienced private flyers often recognize the value of working with aviation professionals who understand these operational realities.

As both a private pilot and aircraft owner, I have had the opportunity to view private aviation from multiple perspectives. Many of our charter managers have even more operational experience, our team is truly unique in the charter industry.

This knowledge and experience a much more comprehensive oversight that most brokers, and often we are better versed in parts of trip evaluation and planning than some operator personnel themselves.  It results in better decision making and smoother experiences for our clients.

Communication Remains Critical

Experienced travelers value clear and accurate communication.

As schedules become more complex and travel demands increase, communication often becomes one of the most important aspects of the charter relationship.

Strong communication includes:

  • Accurate expectations
  • Timely updates
  • Transparent information
  • Practical recommendations
  • Accessibility when questions arise

Many experienced flyers expect straightforward communication that allows them to make informed decisions quickly and confidently.

Trust Is Built Through Consistency

The strongest relationships in private aviation are often built over years rather than individual transactions.

Many of the most experienced private flyers develop long-term relationships with providers who consistently demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and sound judgment.

Trust develops when clients know their interests are being protected, their expectations are understood, and their flights are being managed by professionals who understand the importance of every trip.

Over time, trust often becomes one of the most valuable components of the charter relationship.

Why Experience Still Matters

Private aviation continues to evolve, but certain fundamentals remain unchanged.

Reliable service, operational expertise, quality aircraft access, effective communication, and strong client relationships continue to influence how experienced travelers evaluate charter providers.

Technology has improved many aspects of the industry, but experience remains difficult to replicate.

After more than twenty years serving private aviation clients nationwide, New Flight Charters continues to focus on the principles that sophisticated travelers value most: reliability, expertise, responsiveness, and a streamlined charter experience.

    Jet Charter Pricing Q & A:
Q: Can I get a private jet charter flight for under $10,000?

A: It’s very rare. If a flight of 1-hour or less matches up with a light jet empty leg, it may be under $10,000 total.  Executive turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 or King Air series will typically be under $10,000 for a 1-hour flight or same-day round trip in many parts of the country.  See example costs above.

Q: What about the articles I see about empty legs for dirt cheap, same as airline fares, or even 1/2 price?

A: There is a market for all flights, and a well-fitting empty leg will typically be around 75% of standard pricing. Keep in mind, Empty Legs are a convenient marketing angle to attract interest.  Like they say, if it sounds too good to be true…

Q: How far in advance is best for quotes and booking? The earlier the better?

A: Not usually. Different from the airlines, the best jet charter quotes and availability are less than 2 months in advance, often less than 1 month. Typically specific aircraft availability and pricing are not set further in advance.

Q: When is the best time to find an empty leg?

A: Most jet charters book less than 2 weeks in advance, so that is when the most empty legs become available in aircraft schedules.

Q: I hear about floating fleets with one-way pricing, what is that?

A: The biggest trend in jet charter the past decade is specific fleets that string one-way flights together in their schedules, reducing the positioning costs of traditional charters, thus allowing for reduced ‘one-way’ pricing. These are often the best cost options for one-way flights of 2 hours or more. These are the same fleets most jet cards and memberships use to minimize their costs below the rates their customers are paying.

Q: Are there exceptions? If a jet is flying empty anyway, won’t they take me for cheap for at least some income?

A: There is a market for flights in the charter industry, so each flight has a market value even up to hours before. Also, flying under charter’s FAA Part-135 regulations is more restrictive, expensive and consuming than flying empty repositioning under Part-91.

Q: The airline tickets for this trip are so expensive, if 6 of us chartered our own jet could it be similar or not much more?

A: See the above actual average costs

Q: Are the above example charter costs your set rates or guaranteed?

A: No, but they are typical and what we would expect as every-day best in the charter market. For a specific date and itinerary quotes may be a little lower or a bit higher, however we would expect in most cases to be in this range. We do have the widest availability and guaranteed best price industry-wide.

Q: How can I get a quick real estimate of what a flight might cost, for our decision-making?

A: Jet charter has so many variables, get helpful easy answers from a friendly expert at 888-701-3843 (no sales pitches, guilt or commitment).
